Shovels, Sweets and Sand Pails at Sunny Seaside Shops

When you tire of the beach at Westward Ho! you can always do a little shopping at the nearby shops. You'll find everything you need for a day by the sea. Fun-coloured pails and shovels (or should I say spades) to make sand castles, traditional rock candy with the name of the town that magically never disappears to the very last bite, and walls of old-fashioned loose sweets. Makes me nostalgic for those childhood trips to the sea, where we spent the day listening to the seagulls while playing in the sand or being tossed by the waves.

Birthday Roses

These amazingly beautiful roses were from my aunt and uncle's garden in Devon. I had picked them for an arrangement for my aunty's birthday. And today I am posting them to help me celebrate mine!

Bucks Mills Stream

There's a wee stream that flows beside the road at Bucks Mills. It culminates as a waterfall, cascading from a rocky cliff down at the beach.

Bucks Mills, Devon

We're moving along today to the picturesque small village of Bucks Mills, in the tongue-twisting parish of Woolfardisworthy, on the north coast of Devon. Try saying Woolfardisworthy three times! This wee fishing village is not too far from Clovelly, and reminds me of it in some ways, though much quieter with less visitors. Built on a steep hill, you travel down the road from the top... to the rocky beach at the bottom. Bucks Mills has lots of appeal, with stone walls and cute gates that lead you to the front doors of the many charming small cottages that line the narrow winding road.
