Crossroads Tearoom, Perth, Ontario

We stopped in yesterday at Crossroads Tearoom in Perth for a light lunch.  And of course I had to try their scones for dessert, as you can see for yourself. The place was hopping at 12:30 but we only had a short wait before a table freed up for us. By the time we had finished our lunch, the place had emptied out so I was able to take some photos without disturbing other visitors.

But while we waited for our table, I was able to have a good look around and peruse the menu.

At the front counter there was a selection of baked goods in large glass jars.

Marie Antoinette was there to preside over the proceedings, and my oh my, she made no secret of what she had up her skirt.

Just over her shoulder were an assortment of tables and chairs, set for two, four or six. It is definitely a sort of mix and match kind of place which is perfectly charming and suited to a Victorian tearoom.

There are plenty of details to take in and appreciate.

The place is very cozy despite, or perhaps because of,  its jumble of collectibles.

A lovely corner for two over here...

And seating among what looks like a series of what might have once been fitting rooms.

There are all sorts of vignettes to look at while you dine.

Including these divine hats, which do I prefer... the pink or the blue?

Never mind, it's the food that we came for and everything was very good, and clearly homemade. I will definitely be going back, especially now that I know that sticky toffee pudding is on offer!

Victorian Dinner Party #20

Just one more post about my Victorian dinner party, and this one is about the head gear.  Naturally there were top hats in attendence for the gents.

This was a hat that I made for one of my guests to go with her outfit, and suited her to a T!

It was a conglomeration of velvet, silk, ribbon and feathers.

I think it looked great from every angle!

And these last photos show the headpiece I made to go with my outfit. A combination of silky fabric, black netting and a brooch.

The fabric was actually the leftover ties from the dress that I used to make a bustle for my skirt. It is a wonderful teal colour.

And that, dear blog readers, is my Victorian dinner party, from head to toe!

Vintage Clothing Show

This year's Vintage Clothes Sale was held at the Convention Centre, rather than the sumptuous and highly  nostalgic ballrooms of the Chateau Laurier Hotel. You can't stop change, but you can certainly lose something in the name of progress.  Still, the lovely vintage clothes and accessories still have the power to make the heart skip a little faster.

And some of the vendors definitely have the knack of displaying their merchandise to its best advantage.

Pretty pink shoes placed just so and an ivory pillow with ballerina flounces.

Adorable bunnies made from vintage fabrics.

A hat plumed in the most delicate shades of feathers.

More hats of all descriptions, from pert and perky to flowery extravagance.

A table filled with handbags.

A profusion of flowered tapestry handbags to choose from.

But let's not forget the clothes...

Beautiful cottons and linens with embroidery and lace.

Delicate concoctions from days gone by.

In AnTEAcipation

I am looking forward to attending a very special event this coming Saturday. And I will be in need of a hat, in fact the very hat that you see pictured here. And just what event in this day and age would require wearing a hat, let alone such a hat as this one? Why, a Victorian Tea of course. Hats will abound just as surely as the tulips have started to bloom. And I will be ready ... with my hat. The hat that I added these flowers to in anticipation. Isn’t it a shame that there aren’t more events that positively call out for a lovely hat?
